Too much testosterone?Having enjoyed the recent Sex Issue [August 14]--for reasons other than the fact that I'm quoted in the article on my favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. taking you to task for not publishing yet another tedious article about
The L Word or giving us the latest meandering psycho-drivel about
"gender identity issues," you've got a dozen gay guys who
are still salivating over Ian's underwear pictures. And since
they're the ones who actually pay the bills by purchasing the stuff
your advertisers are selling, I say more power to you!

Never has it been more clear to me that I, as a lesbian, am a second class-citizen--not only in the straight world but in the LGBT LGBT Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community as well--than when I read this issue of The Advocate. I am in no way opposed to nor unappreciative of a beautiful body, of any gender or orientation, but this issue went decidedly overboard. I now have a much better gauge of the size of Ian Roberts's "package," which, no offense to Mr. Roberts, I neither wanted nor needed, and a decidedly better understanding of where women rate for this magazine. Three photographs of women (if my count is correct) and about a page and a quarter of text directed toward your female-identified readersbip hardly qualify as inclusive and borders on the offensive. I guess I should count myself lucky that there was any content pertaining to me at all, unlike the transgender members of our community, who didn't even get that much. Here's hoping you rethink some of your editorial decision making, and remember that there are other letters besides G in LGBT. ANNE REEDSTROM Philadelphia, Pa. |
