Tomasetti honored by AIA New York chapter.


Richard L. Tomasetti, PE, Hon. AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture , chairman and co-founder of Thornton Tomasetti Inc., has been awarded the 2006 AIA New York Chapter Award for his outstanding contributions to architecture and engineering, and for fostering collaboration in the greater design community.

Tomasetti is currently Chairman of the New York Building Foundation and Public Director of the AIA New York Chapter.

Organized in 1857, the Institute conducts various activities and programs to support the profession and enhance its public image, including periodically awarding the AIA  (AIA) and the Center for Architecture Foundation honored three outstanding individuals at their annual Heritage Ball 2006, a black tie event held at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. Richard Tomasetti has 35 years of experience as a structural engineer including numerous major projects from the design of the World Financial Center in New York to Plaza 66 in Shanghai, the tallest concrete building in China. Tomasetti and his firm led the engineering efforts for the NYC Department of Design and Construction's response to the World Trade Center disaster. He is co-author of "Chapter 22: Protective Design of Structures" in Building Security; Handbook for Architectural Planning and Design, published by McGraw Hill, 2004. Tomasetti received his B.C.E. degree and an Honorary Doctorate from Manhattan College, and his M.S.C.E. degree from New York University New York University, mainly in New York City; coeducational; chartered 1831, opened 1832 as the Univ. of the City of New York, renamed 1896. It comprises 13 schools and colleges, maintaining 4 main centers (including the Medical Center) in the city, as well as the . He is an adjunct Professor at Columbia and New York University. His numerous honors and awards include election to the National Academy of Engineering in 2004 and Engineering News Records citation "Those Who Made Marks" for developing the "stressed skin" tube structure for high-rise buildings.
