which are potential pinnacle reefs in these two prospect areas and has commenced a 76 square mile 3-D seismic survey which is being conducted in the Lost Prairie prospect area. Drilling of the first well should commence during the first half of 1997.

Donald L. Evans, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tom Brown, Inc., said, "We are pleased that American Exploration Company has joined our team as we explore together in what is clearly one of the most exciting exploration plays in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. . The continuing completion of prolific wells in this trend confirms a play that is of major significance. Since the introduction of 3-D seismic to the play, the success rate has improved to over 70 percent."

Evans also stated, "More than fifteen 3-D surveys have been initiated to locate the highly productive reefs, and approximately ten rigs are currently drilling. Recently completed wells are producing at rates of up to 28 million cubic feet of gas per day with estimated reserves of up to 75 billion cubic feet."

Commenting for American, Mark Andrews Mark Andrews (born May 19 1926) is an American politician from the state of North Dakota. He is a member of the United States Republican Party.

, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said, "We are very pleased to have been able to add a third major focus area to our exploration portfolio and to be working with Tom Brown, Inc. Like our Texas State Waters and Yoakum Gorge projects, the Cotton Valley Reef Trend project complements our strategy of using 2-D seismic to identify and acquire prospective acreage in a high potential area and then initiate 3-D seismic surveys to delineate drilling locations."

"We have been studying the Cotton Valley Reef Trend for some time and feel that this joint venture offers the best way to establish a meaningful position. In addition, we have recently acquired 3-D seismic data over our lease in the Bear Grass area which directly offsets the Blanton No. 1 discovery made by another operator."
