Consolidation of Voice and Data Networks Over T1 Lines

Reduces Costs and Opens New Revenue Opportunities for Carriers

TollBridge Technologies, the leading provider of carrier quality voice-over-broadband solutions for broadband carriers, today announced the availability of voice-over-T1 service through its TB200 Gateway.

The TB200 Gateway is a carrier-class platform that aggregates traffic from multiple access technologies such as DSL DSL

"The ubiquity and dropping price of T1 access makes an attractive alternative for CLECs to extend market reach in areas not yet serviced by other broadband technologies such as DSL or cable," said Agnes Imregh, TollBridge vice president of marketing. "Integrated voice and data over T1 enables carriers to offer bundled services to subscribers regardless of location."

TollBridge's packet-based VoT1 solutions allocate bandwidth between voice and data through the TB200 Gateway, which converts the IP packets of voice traffic into Time Division Multiplex (TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission. ) format for interfacing to Class 5 switches via a GR-303 or CAS interface. Packet-based VoT1 solutions make the most efficient use of available bandwidth by allocating bandwidth dynamically based on immediate need, rather than a fixed bandwidth allocation Bandwidth allocation refers to various methods used in the communications industry to design and assign frequency channels to different wireless applications. Also on programs such as Bittorent or Limewire.  of voice and data, as is required for TDM-based solutions.

In addition to the TB200 Gateway, the access devices are now available to deploy the VoT1 solution on the customer premise with the ADTRAN Total Access(TM) family of integrated access devices, and the Polycom(R) NetEngine(TM) family of integrated access devices. Both ADTRAN and Polycom have developed these devices to ensure toll-quality voice for a range between 4 and 24 voice lines per T1 line, enabling voice and data traffic to be aggregated at the customer premise.

The TollBridge VoT1 solution consists of four major components: an Integrated Access Device (IAD (Integrated Access Device) A device that multiplexes a variety of communications technologies in the customer's premises onto a single telephone line for transmission to the carrier. It also demultiplexes the incoming streams into their respective channels. ), such as the ADTRAN or Polycom family of products, at the customer premises, an ATM switch or router, the TB200 gateway and a Class 5 switch, which are typically located at the Regional Switching Center A switching center is a node in a telecommunications Circuit switching network which is connected to either another switching center and/or to end user devices. The TB200 gateway is the most widely deployed solution for enhanced packetized voice-over-broadband solutions. Existing TB200 Gateways are can be upgraded to VoT1 capability via software provided by TollBridge.
