Tokyo teacher arrested on suspicion of injuring student.

TOKYO, July 11 Kyodo

A Tokyo elementary school elementary school: see school.  teacher has been arrested on suspicion of injuring an 11-year-old girl in fifth grade, police said Wednesday.

Kanemasa Orihara, of Yashio in Saitama Prefecture Saitama Prefecture (埼玉県 Saitama-ken , allegedly shoved a desk into the girl at Kita-Koiwa Elementary School in Tokyo's Edogawa Ward on June 25, hurting her arm.

Two days later, Orihara, 49, allegedly pushed the girl in a corridor and she injured her knee. The injuries were not serious, but it took several days for them to heal, according to according to

The teacher received a verbal warning from the school's principal after the girl's parents complained in April that the teacher had smoked in a classroom. In early May, the parents complained that the teacher had terrified ter·ri·fy

Orihara joined the school in April and served as the head teacher of fifth-grade students.
