Together as one.

Nothing captures our attention more than the health and safety of a child. All of us want the best for our own children, and we also seek to better the lives of the children in our communities and ultimately the world. None of us can deny those feelings. When the topic of obesity was first raised as a medical issue in the U.S., the feeling was one of ambivalence ambivalence (ămbĭv`ələns), coexistence of two opposing drives, desires, feelings, or emotions toward the same person, object, or goal. The ambivalent person may be unaware of either of the opposing wishes. . Yet the talk continued. Soon we all realized that the second running boom ran counter to another boom, the waist-line expansion--and it had spread. Kids became the fastest growing segment in society, not in numbers in numbered parts; as, a book published in numbers.

. Today, we represent the force of good that can serve to combat the growing epidemic, yes epidemic, of increasingly overweight children in America. When I came aboard in March 2002, both AMAA and ARA were bound together, yet their objectives differed. The time was right to harness the intellect and energy of both organizations to fight TOGETHER for another cause. In late 2003, the ARA Board of Directors unanimously approved a change in the mission focus: To mobilize all Americans in the fight to defeat youth obesity. Since that time, many nonprofit organizations Nonprofit Organization

We have started to make a difference. ARA and AMAA have had the assets and ideas readily available and working together, we've made progress. We launched a new event, the American Running Honors, in Washington, D.C., to showcase the greats in running while emphasizing the cause of defeating youth overweight and obesity. We took an original jogging training plan and brought it out of the closet: The 12-Week Walk-Run program is the basis for the new "ONE-ON-ONE, WALK & RUN" grass roots grass roots

The first word "ONE" in the program title can represent all of us united to get kids moving through walking first, then walking and running. We are part of a team effort to improve the fitness, weight and health of kids in America. AMAA is a big part of this campaign. Together AMAA and ARA can affect change. Both organizations were born at the same time with similar goals. Today, our voice is one. I ask for your support to help raise funds, volunteer at AMAA-ARA events and recruit new members. Let's be the ONE.
