To the polls.


Time to dust off Latin America's voting booths. Eight countries are headed for the polls this year. Three have already voted. Some candidates like Colombia's Alvaro Uribe have been described as runaway favorites. While nothing is etched in stone, here's a look at potential candidates.

Colombia: Alvaro Uribe (right), Horacio Serpa Horacio Serpa Uribe (born 3 January 1943 in Bucaramanga, Santander) is a Colombian politician and lawyer. Horacio Serpa has run as the Colombian Liberal Party candidate for President of Colombia on three occasions; in 1998, 2002, and 2006.  (center left), Cesar Gaviria (center)

Costa Rica Costa Rica (kŏs`tə rē`kə), officially Republic of Costa Rica, republic (2005 est. pop. 4,016,000), 19,575 sq mi (50,700 sq km), Central America. : Oscar Arias (centrist), Otton Soils (center left)

Ecuador: Leon Roldos (left), Alvaro Noboa (right), Cynthia Viteri Cynthia Fernanda Viteri Jiménez de Villamar (born 19 November 1965 in Guayaquil) is an Ecuadorian advocate, journalist and politician.

On 15 October 2006, she took part in the Ecuadorian presidential election and got 525,728 votes, representing 9.63% of the total poll.
