To choose or not to choose.THE LETTER TO THE EDITOR TITLED "REST OR WORST?" in the November 2006 issue was such a sad commentary on the lack of will of some African Americans African American Multiculture A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa. See Race. . We cannot continue to blame other people, institutions, etc., for what we as a people do to ourselves. Companies such as McDonald's, with its variety and high-quality ingredients (oftentimes of·ten·times also oft·times adv. Frequently; repeatedly. Adv. 1. oftentimes - many times at short intervals; "we often met over a cup of coffee" frequently, oft, often, ofttimes not found in many homes), provide customers with something the letter's writer did not mention--choice! The McDonald's menu is conducive con·du·cive adj. Tending to cause or bring about; contributive: working conditions not conducive to productivity. See Synonyms at favorable. to a very healthy and balanced lifestyle when combined with an exercise regimen regimen /reg·i·men/ (rej´i-men) a strictly regulated scheme of diet, exercise, or other activity designed to achieve certain ends. reg·i·men n. 1. and when eliminating other health hazards health hazard Occupational safety Any agent or activity posing a potential hazard to health. Cf Physical hazard. . I would suggest that the next time the writer of that letter visits a McDonald's restaurant, she ask for the wealth of information regarding the nutritional content of McDonald's products and observe the many available choices. As an African American, I--and many of my peers--commend BLACK ENTERPRISE for identifying companies whose success reflects their commitment to diversity, and I look forward to your annual diversity list. Those are the companies we should use our collective choice to support with our business, for they also hire many of our college graduates and sponsor a great majority of African American events, scholarships, and internships.
