To Drill or Not to Drill.


Do you think oil drilling should be allowed in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) covers 19,049,236 acres (79,318 km²) in northeastern Alaska, in the North Slope region. First, divide the class into two groups, with one group representing the oil industry and another group representing environmentalists.

Then as a class, set up the rules and structure of the debate. For example, what is the maximum time for research and preparation? How many representatives from each group will present arguments? How long will each argument last?

Using the points below as a general guide, do additional research to form your arguments.
