Robert Milton Ernest Rauschenberg (b. October 22 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas) is an American artist who came to prominence in the 1950s transition from Abstract
 was Merce v. t. 1. To subject to fine or amercement; to mulct; to amerce.  Cunningham Dance Company's artistic advisor from 1954-1964. He designed sets and costumes (sometimes raiding dumpsters to get what he wanted), including those for Antic Meet (above). The Merce Cunningham Dance Company's gala this month honors Rauschenberg Rausch·en·berg   , Robert Born 1925.

American artist noted for his collages, photomontages, and paintings that incorporate photographs and real objects.
