Mr. Don MacAdam macadam

Form of pavement invented by John McAdam. McAdam's road cross-section consisted of a compacted subgrade of crushed granite or greenstone designed to support the load, covered by a surface of light stone to absorb wear and tear and shed water to the drainage ditches.

Tm Bioscience Corporation is pleased to announce that United States Patent number 5,770,365, "Nucleic Acid Capture Moieties," has issued on June 23, 1998. The inventors Michael Lane, Albert Benight and Brian Faldasz, are the principal scientists of the company.

The patent protects the use of bound "hairpin hairpin

a secondary structure that occurs in single-strand RNA during protein synthesis in which the strand turns back on itself. The structure is the result of base pairing and hydrogen bond formation.
" capture probes in a wide range of DNA-based assays including microplate, magnetic bead and biochip formats. Hairpin capture probes are more sensitive compared to the current industry-standard simplex capture probes. The increased sensitivity provides for earlier detection of infectious disease, more reliable medical diagnosis and improved blood screening. When applied to biochips, the increased sensitivity of hairpin capture probes permits the fabrication of denser biochip arrays therefore reducing the cost per test.

Tm Bioscience Corporation is a genomics company based in Toronto, Ontario, with a subsidiary Tm Technologies Inc. in Woburn, Massachusetts. The company has uncovered a second coding in DNA DNA: see nucleic acid.

One of two types of nucleic acid (the other is RNA); a complex organic compound found in all living cells and many viruses. It is the chemical substance of genes.
based on its sequence-dependent reactivity. The Second Genetic Code allows DNA sequence information to be analyzed in new ways and enables improvements to products that incorporate or react with DNA.
