Tjahjono has been in the computer and telecommunications industries for 25 years prior to accepting this chairmanship. Tjahjono's career which began with IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Indonesia in 1976 has covered many areas of both the computer and telecommunications industries. In 1981 Tjahjono joined Indosat a state owned telecommunications service provider A Telecommunications Service Provider or TSP is a type of Communications Service Provider that has traditionally provided telephone and similar services. In 1997 Tjahjono was selected as one of the 5 best CEOs in Indonesia by an SWA magazine survey.

During his tenure as CEO of Indosat, Tjahjono acted upon a request from the Government of Indonesia to secure a listing for Indosat in the United States public market-place. This was successfully completed and Indosat was listed on the New York Stock Exchange New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)

Based upon his background in the computer and telecommunications industries, Tjahjono believes that the future lies in the multimedia area in which, together with advancement in telecommunications technology, advances in the infrastructure backbone and in the speed of computer processing, the Internet will play the main role as the vehicle for the delivery of content and information. This is the vision that he wants to see realized in AWHI; a company which he believes can move rapidly and develop itself into a full multimedia service provider with a base in the Internet environment. With the combination of the mature U.S. market and Indonesia's potential for high market growth, Tjahjono believes that AWHI has potential for outstanding success in the Internet and multimedia area. As previously stated, AWHI will engage in this business through its 90% owned subsidiary PT Jaring Data Interaktif (JDI).
