Tishman hits the jackpot with MGM Mirage job.

MGM MIRAGE has named Tishman Construction Corporation as executive construction manager for Project CityCenter, a $5-billion, 18-million s/f, multi-use development situated on 66 acres of land in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip.

Project CityCenter will be situated between the Monte Carlo and Bellagio resorts. The project's nucleus will be a shimmering 60-story, 4,000-room hotel and casino. Its extensive non-gaming components will include two independently flagged 400-room hotels, 1,640 residential units and about 500,000 s/f of retail, dining and entertainment space.

MGM MIRAGE is in the process of selecting world-class architects and designers for Project CityCenter. Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architects developed the master plan; Gensler is the executive architect; Cesar Pelli & Associates is the design architect on the 4,000-room hotel/casino; Raphel Vinoly Architects and James KM Cheng are designing the residential towers, Foster and Partners and Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates will be the non-gaming hotel architects; and HKS, Inc. is the architect of record. The selection of the design teams for the remaining portions of the program is ongoing.

As executive construction manager, Tishman is committed to working with MGM MIRAGE in its efforts to assemble a diverse workforce of subcontractors, vendors and suppliers for the duration of Project CityCenter's construction. Tishman successfully implemented an ambitious program to include minority, women-owned and disadvantaged business enterprises and minority/female workforce throughout construction of the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J.

Among its several unique aspects, Project CityCenter is striving for Silver certification in Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design from the U.S. Green Building Council. A casino has yet to achieve such a rating for environmental sustainability.

Construction will begin on Project CityCenter this month and the development is expected to debut to the public in December, 2009. At the height of construction, Tishman will oversee 7,500 workers. Upon completion, the complex will create more than 12,000 permanent jobs, becoming the largest single employer in the history of Las Vegas. Additional development phases are envisioned over time on contiguous MGM MIRAGE-owned land.
