Start the application process as early as you can. If a school that you like offers an early admission program then go for it. If not wait until the admission season opens and get to work. Making application to colleges is a very technical and cumbersome process. Check out the websites for schools on your list and find out when they begin accepting applications.

Have a financial plan ready to go. If your need financial aid or a student loan you can start that process long before the school year begins. Know where your money is coming from long before you get your acceptance letter.

Some experts suggest that instead of applying to a long list of schools that you focus on a smaller number that you really have an interest in attending. That list should have at least one pretty sure bet, a longer odds chance, and your dream school.

Perfect your essay writing skills. Every application will require one so why don't you take the time to write a great one. If this is really not your area of expertise then get help, from a counselor, a friend or a family member.

Prepare for your interview. Remember to relax as much as possible, take your time answering questions, and breathe. A few long breaths just before the interview begins is a great way to help you become wide awake and attentive. Dress appropriately, be polite, and most importantly just be yourself.

Double check and proofread your application as the last thing you do before you seal the envelope, put a stamp on it, and drop it in the mailbox. Poor grammar and errors increase your chances of being placed in the rejected pile, and you don't want that do you?

Finally, ask all of your friends and family members who have been through the college admissions process for their advice and guidance. Listen well and follow their suggestions. They are pulling for you to succeed and if you follow these tips your mailbox will soon be bringing you offers of acceptance to choose from.
