Ximian, Inc., the leading open source desktop company, today announced that Tipic, the leading provider of Windows-based Jabber An open standard for instant messaging (IM). There are also hundreds of public Jabber servers that any user can register with, Google Talk being the largest.  instant messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or  servers, will use Mono(TM) to build a multi-platform server that works on Linux and UNIX as well as on Microsoft Windows servers. Tipic is using Mono to develop instant messaging (IM) applications in programming languages that enable them to run on multiple operating systems.

Tipic is developing applications for its IM client, which communicates using the XMPP/Jabber standard. Moving beyond traditional instant messaging, applications based on the Tipic Instant Messaging Platform (TIMP TIMP Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase

Mono enables Tipic developers to create the applications once and execute them on multiple operating systems, thereby dramatically reducing development costs.

Having the ability to develop services in higher level languages, such as C#, is important; our applications ultimately will have an advantage over pure Linux applications in how and where they run. Mono lets us quickly and affordably deliver commercial applications across the platforms our customers require."

Tipic is the latest company to announce it is utilizing Mono to enhance the multi-platform capabilities of its products. Last month, OpenLink Software, Inc., an industry leader in the development and deployment of secure, high-performance Universal Data Access and Web Services middleware, announced that it is using Mono as part of the development efforts for Virtuoso 3.0, its latest Universal Server release.

"By choosing to use Mono, Tipic shows how companies are already benefiting from the Mono Project," said Miguel de Icaza Miguel de Icaza (born c. 1972) is a Mexican free software programmer, best known for starting the GNOME and Mono projects.

Commercial offerings from companies such as Tipic and OpenLink demonstrate the progress of Mono in enabling, on Linux, a self-hosting C# (pronounced C-sharp) compiler, CLR (Common Language Runtime) The runtime engine in Microsoft's .NET platform. More than 100 developers from around the world, in addition to those from Tipic, currently contribute to the Mono Project, which is scheduled for completion next year.
