Timmins moving on airport property.


The City of Timmins Timmins, town (1991 pop. 47,461), central Ont., Canada, on the Mattagami River. Timmins is the commercial center of the rich Porcupine gold-mining district, where gold was first discovered in 1909. Silver, copper, lead, and zinc are also mined.  is seeking approval from the federal government to sell surplus land near the Timmins Airport Timmins Airport, (IATA: YTS, ICAO: CYTS), is located 6 nautical miles (11.1 km) north-northwest of Timmins, Ontario, Canada. The airport serves both scheduled passenger and cargo flights and general aviation, including air ambulance (MEDEVAC), forest-fire .

The government handed the airport to the city in the late 1990s, but the land was not part of the transaction, so council needs permission to sell the parcel. The committee of the whole hopes to use the sale to attract future construction projects.

If the land can be sold, the revenues will be allocated back to the airport to build further infrastructure.
