Times near accord on 40-story tower.

 Times reported June 20 that they planned to enter into an agreement with the city and state to build a new 40-story headquarters on Eighth Avenue between 40th and 41st Streets. Brooklyn-based Forest City Ratner Companies will serve as the developer and a partner on the project.

If would be the newspaper's third Times Square headquarters in 100 years, and would allow the paper 50 consolidate operations currently located in six different buildings it was reported.

A spokeswoman for Forest City Ratner said the developer was defering all inquiries to the Times, who did not respond to Real Estate Weekly's questions.

On Feb. 18, when Forest City was named as a partner, a Times statement said, "We're pleased to take this step, although it's not a commitment to build. "However, one way or another, we are committed to finding a solution to our need for appropriate space for our staff. If we don't build, another option is to renovate our current building."
