Times Square to become the crossroads of discussion at December 14 event.The Times Square Alliance has announced the first in a series of free to the public panel discussions on its landmark initiative, Design Times Square. This program celebrates innovative quality design at the Crossroads of the World Designed by Robert V. Derrah and built in 1936, the Crossroads of the World has been called America's first modern shopping mall. Located on Sunset Boulevard and Las Palmas in Los Angeles, the mall features a central building designed to resemble an ocean liner surrounded by a and encourages businesses and property owners to think about the aesthetic value of their spaces and places. On Wednesday, December 14, at the Center for Architecture, Susan Szenazy, editor of Metropolis Magazine Metropolis is a 80-page weekly city guide and classified ads glossy magazine published by Crisscross K.K. targeting English-speaking foreigners in Tokyo.[1] History , will lead 2005 Design Times Square jury members and design professionals, including Kitty Hawks (of Kitty Hawks Inc.), Deirdre Scott (of Design Police), Ken Smith (of Ken Smith Landscape Architects) and Roger Whitehouse (of Whitehouse and Company) in a discussion of the 26 nominees which they cited as this year's finalists--the most intriguing, innovative and interesting design in the Times Square area. Among the sites to be discussed are: Interiors such as the lobby swimming pool and cedar-wrapped walls of the Hotel QT and the disco-themed acrylic dance floor of The Whiskey whiskey [from the Gaelic for "water of life"], spirituous liquor distilled from a fermented mash of grains, usually rye, barley, oats, wheat, or corn.
