PITTSBURGH -- TimeSys Corporation, the leading service provider to developers in the embedded Linux market, today announced the availability of LinuxLink subscriptions for the Intel Pentium family of processors, sometimes also referred to as the i586 family. This LinuxLink complements the already popular LinuxLink for the Intel Pentium III The successor to the Pentium II from Intel. Introduced in the spring of 1999 at 500 MHz, the Pentium III architecture was similar to the Pentium II with the addition of 70 new instructions optimized for multimedia (see SSE).  (i686) family of processors. LinuxLink by TimeSys is the first commercial offering to support the majority of embedded developers who build and assemble their own commercial-grade custom Linux platforms. By delivering on-demand access to continuously updated processor-optimized Linux packages, components and tools, engineers benefit from a rich development environment and community support.

In response to customer demand, the introduction of LinuxLink subscriptions for Pentium- processors and clones now provides a solution for customers creating embedded Linux devices with Pentium-equivalent processors from vendors such as Via and Geode.

TimeSys continues to offer the popular Pentium III (i686-based) LinuxLink that is designed for development using Pentium III generation or newer processors. Desktop Linux This article or section is written like a personal reflection or and may require .
