Time to support our future. (From the President).

It has been my privilege, as your president, to serve as an ex-officio member on the ARMA International Educational Foundation (AIEF AIEF - ARMA International Educational Foundation) Board of Trustees. The vitality and vision shown by this Board is invigorating, and I encourage you all to participate in its plan to "Create a Legacy" for our profession by contributing to the 5/100 Legacy Campaign.

We all want our profession to grow and be recognized. I hear from our nembers all the time that research and education are two of the areas in most need of development. That's why ARMA established the Foundation in the first place. But in order for the Foundation to have the funding necessary to undertake these important projects, WE, as individuals, need to make the investment in our future and contribute. The new 5/100 campaign is a simple, easy, and painless way to participate.

For about the price of a premium cup of coffee or latte every week--$25 a quarter--your $100 a year for five years will build our Foundation for the future. Often you can double or triple your individual contribution by participating in your employer's matching program for charitable contributions, so be sure to check it out. All donations go into the endowment fund, which will remain untouched. None of this money may be used for administrative costs, for example. Only the interest earned on the principal of the endowment can be used to fund projects. Furthermore, the Foundation is a separate 501(c) 3 organization; contributions are kept completely separate of ARMA and are administered by the Foundation's Board of Trustees.

The Foundation has had a slow start. The original investment of approximately $100,000 (previously the ARMA Scholarship Fund) has grown to close to $300,000 with contributions and pledges over the last few years. Unfortunately, the influx of pledges has dwindled and chapters, which used to be the main contributors to the Scholarship Fund, have not moved their giving over to the Foundation. I encourage chapters to donate the money collected from various fundraising endeavors to the Foundation where it will work to benefit us all and the future of our profession. Remember, it is your profession, it is your future, and your legacy!
