Time Warner Honors Employees' Outstanding Volunteer Achievements with 24th Annual Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards.

Time Warner Inc. today announced the winners of the 24th Annual Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards, which celebrate the exceptional volunteer efforts of its employees. The awards, named for Andrew Heiskell, the late former chairman and CEO of Time Inc., are being presented at a luncheon ceremony today at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City to eight Time Warner employees in recognition of their outstanding contributions to community and public service.

This year, Time Warner is also presenting for the first time a Community Service Team Award, which was created to recognize a team of employees that exemplifies Time Warner's values of creativity, responsibility, teamwork, diversity and integrity. The 2005 Community Service Team Award is being presented to HBO's Digital Doves program, which provides creative opportunities for homeless and at-risk youth to build self-confidence and other life skills.

In addition, Ted Leonsis, Vice Chairman, America Online, and President, AOL Audience Business, will receive a special award given to a senior executive for outstanding community leadership.

Dr. Maya Angelou, the noted poet, author, educator and civil-rights activist, will speak at today's luncheon on volunteerism and community service.

Each Andrew Heiskell Community Service Award winner receives $5,000 from Time Warner, in the form of a $3,000 donation to the nonprofit organization or organizations of his or her choice, and a personal honorarium of $2,000. In addition, as part of the Community Service Team Award, Time Warner makes a $10,000 donation to the nonprofit organization or organizations of the team's choice. In honor of Mr. Leonsis, Time Warner will make a $5,000 donation to the nonprofit organization of his choice.

This year's honorees, who were nominated by their peers and chosen from among Time Warner's 84,000 employees worldwide, are:

Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards

Constance Biteye, Coordinator, Human Resources, New Line Cinema, Los Angeles, California, who is a volunteer leader at Guardians of Love, where she organizes support group meetings for the foster parent community. Once a foster child herself, she is now a foster parent and is committed to supporting other foster families.

Rayna Bush, Workforce Management Supervisor, America Online, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who, after her infant daughter was diagnosed with a life-threatening disorder called craniosynostosis, became a driving force behind CAPPSkids, an organization that provides support and education to families of children afflicted with cranial disorders.

Steven Fuller, Lead Production Support Specialist, Turner Broadcasting System, Atlanta, Georgia, who has logged thousands of pro bono hours over the past seven years installing and servicing the computer system at the Georgia Law Center for the Homeless.

Patty Gonzales, Manager, Government Affairs, Time Warner Cable, Austin, Texas, who founded the Prom Princesses/Prom Dudes Project, which collected donated prom dresses, secured free tuxedo rental, and hosted a day of beauty at her home for foster children during prom season. She also sits on the City of Austin's Community Development Commission and founded a leadership program for the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Erin Hennessy, Senior Counsel, Time Warner Corporate, New York, New York, who is a board member and volunteer for Miracle House, an organization that provides temporary housing and other support services for families getting treatment at New York City hospitals.

Jose Perez, Consumer Marketing Director, People en Espanol, Time Inc., New York, New York, who serves on the board of Safe Horizon, which provides support and promotes justice for victims of crime and abuse. He has helped raise more than $500,000 for the organization. He also created the Northern Lights Alternative's first direct mail campaign, which raised more than $100,000 for children and adults with AIDS.

Michael Small, Executive Editor, Entertainment Weekly Online, New York, New York, who for the past three years has run a weekly job-readiness program for the Andrew Glover Youth Program, which offers an alternative to prison for first-time juvenile offenders in New York City.

AJ Vargas, Associate Producer, Warner Bros. Animation, Sherman Oaks, California, who since 1998 has volunteered for Camp Max Straus Sports and Arts Buddies program, which provides opportunities for underprivileged kids to learn skills for self-respect, integrity, and positive peer relations through sports and arts. Since 1999, he has worked with the Hathaway Family Resource Center in Los Angeles. He also volunteers much of his vacation time at the Ronald McDonald camp for children with cancer and their siblings.

Working with its non-profit partner, Covenant House California, HBO's Digital Doves program began in 2003 with the idea to provide homeless and at-risk youth ages 18-24 with the basic tools, skills and knowledge they need to explore filmmaking as a means of self-expression. Today, the program consists of two eight-week video production workshops, where participants explore the use of video for creative expression, and learn technical skills in story writing, camera operation and editing. In the final month, students work in teams to complete a five-minute video. To date, about two dozen young people have participated in the program. The main objective is to provide a fun and creative way to build self-confidence and other life skills that lead to self-sufficiency.

Special Award for Community Leadership

Ted Leonsis, Vice Chairman, America Online, and President, AOL Audience Business, Dulles, Virginia. Since his life-changing experience of surviving a plane crash more than 20 years ago, Mr. Leonsis has made volunteerism a part of his daily life. He has been a champion of AOL's social responsibility activities and has made a deep personal commitment to two organizations: the Hoop Dreams Foundation, which provides college scholarships to at-risk inner-city youth, and Best Buddies, which helps integrate the intellectually disabled into their communities and build relationships between them and mainstream friends. In addition to personally funding scholarships at Hoop Dreams, he has become a mentor for the organization. He also serves as a mentor for Best Buddies for which he has helped raise millions of dollars.

About the Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards

The awards are named for the late former Time Inc. chairman and CEO Andrew Heiskell, whose 43-year career at Time Inc. was marked by a distinguished record of public service and philanthropy. He founded the National Urban Coalition, for which he served as co-chairman from 1967 to 1979, and played an important role in the successful 12-year effort to restore Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan. His leadership and generosity have been recognized in numerous ways, including the naming of the New York City Library for the Blind in his honor.
