Thurston rolls over league foes.Byline: The Register-Guard Thurston used a combined nine forfeit wins and seven pins to cruise past North Eugene, 70-12, and Springfield, 63-6, in two Midwestern League dual wrestling meets at Thurston on Wednesday. Leland Broom (140 pounds) was the only Thurston wrestler to record pins in both of the Colts' victories. William Yarbrough (112), Brice Arand (125), Nick Kerbs (152) and Tom Helton (189) had pins against the Highlanders. Stephen Dorman (119) recorded a pin against Springfield. Ten of Marshfield's 11 victories came from pins as the Pirates captured a 66-10 Midwestern League road victory over Sheldon. Marshfield got four straight pins from Andy Van Fleet (103 pounds), Kyle Cox (112), Kyle Coski (119) and Vinny Martinez (125). Dustin Hall (135), Raymond Heyer (145), Grant Mungi (152), Travis Murray (171), Thomas Mayes (215) and Marcus Heyer (275) had the Pirates' other pins. Scott Hayes (130) and Stephen Johnson (160) recorded pins for the Axemen. North Eugene used five pins to knock off host South Eugene 42-24 in a Midwestern League dual. The Highlanders received pins from Nadav Steinberg (125 pounds), Robbie Lagumina (135), Andrew Rogers (145), Andy Trank (152) and Jon Rice (189). The Axemen got pins from Travis Poole (130) and Forest Crocker-Solis (140). Girls swimming Kim Settelmeyer won the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke as host Cottage Grove scored 100 points to outlast Philomath (92), The Dalles (89) and Molalla (10) in a four-team meet. Philomath won four events, and The Dalles' Neticia Enesi captured first place in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. Boys swimming Philomath's Chris Edmonds won the 100 butterfly and was a member of the Warriors' winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams as Philomath scored 132 points to win a four-team meet at Cottage Grove. Cottage Grove (68 points) won five events, including two each by Cody Smith and Eric Elligot. The Dalles (39) and Molalla (35) also competed. |
