Thurston edges Marshfield on track.


Byline: The Register-Guard

Brett Josephson won both hurdles races and Peter Degner was victorious in the 1,500 and 3,000 to pace Thurston to an 82-63 Midwestern League boys track and field win over visiting Marshfield on Tuesday.

Girls track and field

Marshfield won nine of 17 events, but Thurston used its depth to pull out a 78-66 Midwestern League win over the Pirates in Springfield.

Stacey Coyle won the shot put (37-6 1/2 ) and discus (122-7), and teammate Leah Worthen took the 100 (12.53) and 200 (26.15) to lead the Pirates. Jamie Baynes was second in the 100 in 12.55, and Tiffany Tiffany, Tiffanie (UK)

 Gibson won the 800 and 3,000 to pace Thurston.

Girls tennis

Gupse Spasaro defeated North Eugene's Alisa Caves 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles and Kelley Soltau beat the Highlanders' Anu Ruuskanen by the same score in No. 4 singles to lead host Lebanon to an 8-0 victory.

Natalie Paden won No. 1 singles over Laylie Miille, and Carra Schmidt and Ami Durling were victorious in No. 1 doubles for the Warriors

Suzanne Massie defeated Thurston's Minnie Kaufman 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, and the duo of Megan Ayers and Liz Cooney won No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-1 to lead host Marshfield to a 7-1 Midwestern League victory over the Colts.
