Thunder Bay-based mill scales back workforce.

"Unfortunately, we made the decision to reduce our workforce by 50 people," he says.

The mill, which makes high-quality coated paper Coated paper is paper which has been coated by an inorganic compound to impart certain qualities to the paper, including weight and surface gloss, smoothness or ink absorbency. Kaolinite is the compound most often used for coating papers used in commercial printing.  products, currently employs about 575 people. Foster says the need for layoffs became apparent over the last couple of months.

"People have to understand this was a tough decision and we knew the impact it would have on people and families, but after considering everything, it was a decision that had to be made," he says.
