This three-axis laser measurement system is said to meet industry demands for more accurate and reliable on-line measurement of outside diameter during the production process. The compact ODAC 33TRIO delivers three synchronized precision measurements on one plane, said to set a new standard in diameter measurement accuracy and repeatability. Measurement errors from ovality and product orientation are said to virtually disappear with the addition of a third axis of measurement.

With traditional two-axis or dual plane measurement, even the slightest product ovality can influence accuracy of the resultant calculated average o.d., according to the company. Quality data derived from these measurements, i.e., Cp and Cpk, are then likely to document a variation greater than what actually exists. Said to be of even greater concern, an integrated feedback control system responding to this erroneous variation is quite likely to introduce, via automatic corrections, a degree of product variation previously non-existent, according to the manufacturer.

The ODAC 33TRIO system includes high sensitivity fault detection at 1,800 measurements per second over a diameter range from 0.15 mm to 34 mm.
