the F-35 Lightning II The F-35 Lightning II is a single-seat, single-engine, stealth-capable military strike fighter, a multi-role aircraft that can perform close air support, tactical bombing, and air-to-air combat. The F-35 is descended from the X-35 of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program. fighter, meaning all three variants are being
produced concurrently by the company. Initial manufacture is of the
first titanium and aluminium frames of the aft fuselage which, with the
empennage empennage: see airplane. for each variant, are being designed, engineered and built by
BAE Systems. The CV variant is due for first flight in 2009. BAE Systems
currently begins a new aircraft assembly every four weeks--the System
Development and Demonstration phase of the programme will see 21 test
aircraft built; six for static testing Static Testing is a form of software testing where the software isn't actually used. This is in contrast to Dynamic testing. It is generally not detailed testing, but checks mainly for the sanity of the code, algorithm, or document. and 15 to undergo flight tests
for the US and British forces.
