Three More High-Speed Train Regions On Track for Final Environmental Review.

Authority Board Selects Contractors for LA to San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- At its monthly meeting today, the High-Speed Rail High-speed rail is a type of passenger rail transport that operates significantly faster than the normal speed of rail traffic. Specific definitions include 200-320 km/h (125-200 mph) - depending on whether the track is upgraded or new - by the European Union and above 90 mph  Authority Board approved the selection of three environmental/engineering teams that will lead and complete the environmental analyses and preliminary engineering for high-speed train regional lines from Sacramento to Fresno; Fresno to Palmdale; and Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  to San Diego.

"These regional teams join two others charged with ensuring that the environmental clearance and permitting is completed along regional segments, continuing the engineering analysis and keeping the project moving forward," said Judge Quentin L. Kopp Quentin Lewis Kopp (born 1928 in Syracuse, New York) served as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and as a member of the California State Senate from 1986-1998, representing California's 8th Senatorial District, which included the northern portions of San Mateo , Chairman of the California High-Speed Rail The California High-Speed Rail project is a proposed high-speed rail system in the state of California. The system is being planned by the California High-Speed Rail Authority, which will design, build, and operate the system.  Authority.

"With the majority of our regional teams in place, the project is in a better position than it ever has been to collaborate with regional planners to ensure that the high-speed train project delivers on the more immediate and local benefits for which it is designed."

Depending on results of the Bay Area to Central Valley program-level environmental analysis now underway, the total number of segment -- or "project-level" -- environmental and engineering teams needed for the high-speed train system could be between six and eight. Two segment teams were selected by the Authority Board last December -- for the Los Angeles to Orange County; and Los Angeles to Palmdale segments. All regional teams are under the direction of the Authority's Program Manager, Parson's Brinckerhoff. The contractors approved today are:
