Threat facing local matches.

Sea anglers are being urged to support their local matches or risk losing them.

Only three anglers fished the latest Saltburn match, others being tempted away by bigger regional opens offering more prize money.

However, even though club matches can never hope to compete financially against the big events, it is important for anglers to give the clubs as much support as possible

A POLLOCK of 3lb 10oz was the top fish as Terry Dalton won the St Mary's mini-rover match with a mixed bag from Whitby West Pier.

He beat 15 other anglers - nine weighing in - with 15lb 11.5oz, made up of eight billet, including one of 2lb 7oz, the pollock, a mackerel mackerel, common name for members of the family Scombridae, 60 species of open-sea fishes, including the albacore, bonito, and tuna. They are characterized by deeply forked tails that narrow greatly where they join the body; small finlets behind both the dorsal and  and a codling.

Darren Lane and George Wilson each caught two mackerel for 1lb 9oz to share runner-up spot, ahead of Geoff Walker, who caught a codling and a rockling rock·ling

WAYNE Ruddick won the previous match, a rover, with two codling, including the biggest fish of the match at 1lb 11.5oz, for 3lb 4oz.

Terry Dalton was runner up with two codling and a rockling for 2lb 8oz, while Darren Lister was third with three whiting for 1lb 10oz. Eighteen fished with eight weighing in.

Tomorrow's rover is from 5-9pm, with registration at the Boys' Club 3.45-4pm.

OF the three who fished the Saltburn heaviest fish match, two weighed in, Peter race winning with an eel eel, common name for any fish of the 10 families constituting the order Anguilliformes, and characterized by a long snakelike body covered with minute scales embedded in the skin.  of 1lb 3.25oz from Port Mulgrave.

Paul Lobley caught a 1lb 1oz codling, and won the super pool with two codling for 2lb 1.75oz.

Tomorrow's match is fished from 6 to 10pm towards high water. Register at Ruby Street from 90 to 60 minutes before the start.

IN the Redcar N and G match 25 members fished, with 13 weighing in an assortment, including mackerel, whiting, coleys, pollock and flounders.
