They argue that too many economists consider his preference to work as a public intellectual rather than as a member of the formal academe, as well as his historical contexts (especially Progressivism), obscure the inherent value of his work. They seek to locate him at the center of laissez faire economic thought by showing the relevance of his work in such subjects as the nature of private property, capital, the worth of institutions and markets, and the interdisciplinary work necessary to understand economics at the cultural level.
