Thornton, Ph.D., P.E., co-chairman of The Thornton-Tomasetti Group, to receive its second annual Leonardo da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci (də vĭn`chē, Ital. lāōnär`dō dä vēn`chē), 1452–1519, Italian painter, sculptor, architect, musician, engineer, and scientist, b. near Vinci, a hill village in Tuscany. Award, which recognizes special individuals who have achieved notable levels of excellence in the architecture and engineering profession and who set the standard for enterprise management. Dr. Thornton was honored in a ceremony during the PSMA/SMPS National Conference in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Thornton's 41 years of experience with The Thornton-Tomasetti Group have included involvement in the design and construction of projects in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. and overseas, ranging from hospitals, arenas, and high-rise buildings, to airports, transportation facilities, and special projects. Many of these projects have set industry standards for innovative thinking and creativity. Notable projects are the New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States.
