Thomson launches news service and e-newsletter.


Thomson (Boston, MA) and ICON plc. (North Wales, PA/Eastleigh, UK), a contract research organization, have launched an electronic newsletter to cover the developing clinical research market in Central and Eastern Europe The term "Central and Eastern Europe" came into wide spread use, replacing "Eastern bloc", to describe former Communist countries in Europe, after the collapse of the Iron Curtain in 1989/90.  (CEE cee

). Inside Clinical Research-Central and Eastern Europe will be produced quarterly for 6000 professionals involved in clinical drug trials conducted in CEE.

Thomson said the newsletter is designed to keep readers current with emerging trends, breaking news, best practices for conducting trials, and pipelines for drug development. Thomson noted that the number of drug trials conducted throughout CEE has grown by an average of 15%+ over the past five years and that "companies already operating there and those interested in entering the market have a high demand for targeted clinical research news information."

In related news, Thomson Financial (New York) has launched "Thomson Financial News," an online news service that will be delivered via the Thomson One online suite.
