"We're thrilled to announce this partnership with AMTS, because they already have a successful technical and operations track record in managing a state-of-the-art investment management support business. Their in-depth understanding of global investment management systems and workflow processes and many years of experience operating PORTIA means that our clients and prospects will have a very viable outsourcing alternative," said Thomson Financial's Portfolio Solutions Group Senior Vice President of Global Product Strategy and Operations, Jody Morse.

AMTS provides various levels of services to nine asset managers, six of which already use Thomson Financial software. "We have a long-standing customer relationship with AMTS and have the highest regard for their management. Through this partnership, we can offer our clients flexibility in their choice of software and services to meet both short and long term needs," said Morse.

Firms electing to outsource would license the software (e.g., PORTIA) from Thomson Financial, and then choose from a menu of AMTS services, such as facilities management The management of a user's computer installation by an outside organization. All operations including systems, programming and the datacenter can be performed by the facilities management organization on the user's premises. , application hosting, database maintenance, data feed management, security master file updating and reconcilations to custodial banks. While firms contract directly with AMTS for outsourced services, Thomson Financial manages the joint client relationships through its Relationship Management and Customer Care organizations.

"We have been hosting PORTIA for many years, and built all of our applications around it," said Asset Management Technology Solutions Vice President and Director of Operations, Nancy McColgan. "As such, we offer a suite of products and services that truly complement the software." In addition to providing systems/business integration, workflow analysis and customized interfaces, McColgan explained that firms can also benefit from proprietary products AMTS has developed such as Portfolio Management Inquiry, an application conceived by portfolio managers that presents PORTIA data in a screen grid format appealing to portfolio managers.

Thomson Financial cites several reasons for asset managers embracing outsourcing, including escalating costs to meet T+1 (same day settlement), pressures to remain competitive by lowering operational expenses, additional processing and technology costs tied to supporting global investment products, and overall changing attitudes toward outsourcing, particularly as firms fully appreciate their core strengths and added value Added value in financial analysis of shares is to be distinguished from value added.
