Thomson Corp. acquires Brazilian Legal Publisher.
Founded in 1972, Sintese publishes summaries and full-text cases, legislation pieces and analysis, and doctrines for the Brazilian legal market. It is the largest electronic publisher in Brazil and the company publishes more than 200 books. Sintese will be partnered with IOB (Sao Paulo), a Brazilian regulatory business acquired by Thomson in 2000.
Thomson Legal & Regulatory ceo Brian Hall said the deal is another step in the Thomson global strategy to establish a presence in strategic markets worldwide. The deal "builds on our acquisitions of IOB and Le Ley in Argentina...As the largest electronic publisher in Brazil, Sintese adds significant value to our global portfolio of online products."
