The Thomson Corp. (Toronto, ON) has purchased Sintese (Porto Alegre Porto Alegre

Port and city(pop., 2005 est.: city, 1,386,900; metro. area, 3,978,263), southern Brazil. Located along the Guaíba River near the Atlantic Ocean coast, it was founded c. 1742 by immigrants from the Azores. It was first known as Porto dos Casais.
, Brazil), a leading legal publisher for the Brazilian market. No terms were given. Sintese will become a part of Thomson's Legal & Regulatory unit.

Founded in 1972, Sintese publishes summaries and full-text cases, legislation pieces and analysis, and doctrines for the Brazilian legal market. It is the largest electronic publisher in Brazil and the company publishes more than 200 books. Sintese will be partnered with IOB IOB International Order Book (London Stock Exchange)
