* Philip Morris Management Corp., Washington, D.C., promotes Russell Laird to director of agricultural relations. Laird will spearhead the company's Shared Solutions program. Jay Poole is promoted to vice president of external affairs.

* Roger Zuehl retires as manager of public relations with Case IH, Racine, Wis.

Ten Years Ago

* An alliance of ag publishers, advertisers and ad agencies votes to retain Roper Starch Worldwide Inc. as supplier for ag publication research studies. Roper Starch has conducted its Farm Audience Readership Measurement Service (FARMS) studies for the industry since 1983.

* Jim Evans retires as head, ag communications and education for the University of Illinois, Urbana, after 33 years of service.

Twenty Years Ago

* Valentine-Radford Inc., Kansas City, Mo., adds R. Kelly Schwalbe as an account executive in its PR department. Schwalbe was manager of company publications for Walnut Grove Products.

* Randy Groff joins International Minerals and Chemical Corp., Chicago, as manager, field marketing programs in the company's fertilizer group. Groff was formerly advertising manager at A.O. Smith Harvestore Products Inc., Arlington Heights, Ill.

* Terra Chemicals International Inc., Sioux City, Iowa, purchases the assets and businesses of the ag products division (Sohigro) of Sohio Chemical Co., a subsidiary of The Standard Oil Company of Ohio.
