News of the merger termination led to a combined market capitalization loss of nearly $14.6 billion on the day of the announcement. Monsanto stock declined by 26.6 percent; AHP's fell by 10 percent. * Southern States Cooperative, Richmond, Va., completes the purchase of the wholesale and retail farm supply assets of Gold Kist Inc., Atlanta. Ten Years Ago * Brighton Agency, Clayton, Mo., names Linda Arnold as account executive. Arnold previously was manager of promotions and consumer information for the Indiana Soybean Growers Association. * American Cyanamid Co., Wayne, N.J., and The Shell Petroleum Co. reach agreement on the sale of Shell's crop protection businesses to Cyanamid. Twenty Years Ago * Denny Otto is named advertising manager, agricultural implements for International Harvester, Chicago. He replaces Jan Doyle, who goes to Bozell & Jacobs Inc., Chicago, to work on the J.I. Case account. * Estech Inc., Fairview Heights, III., names Barker Campbell & Farley, Virginia Beach, Va., to handle communications for its Harvest King, Par EX and Woodace products. Managing the account will be Robert Stiffler, senior vice president, and Roger Yount, account supervisor. |
