Name: Betty J. "Beejie" Bevan, 75, Eugene

Claim to fame: Creator of 30-plus teddy bears that resemble Elvis, Liberace, Napoleon, Gandhi, Henry VIII and others, part of a collection that numbers more than 100.

Why teddy bears? "My brother had a teddy bear when he was a little guy. He wouldn't let me play with his teddy bear and I waited until I was in my 50s, and I started with one of my own."

Background: Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and a resident of the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  for more than 20 years. She settled in Eugene in the mid-1980s.

 in search of clothing to complete the effect. "They're like my children," she said, chuckling. "These little guys, they're so real that I talk to them."

Elementary, my dear ... : Bevan's favorite is her recreation of Sherlock A Macintosh utility starting with Version 8.5 of the operating system that provides a common facility for searching the local hard disk, the local network and the Internet.  Holmes, complete with tweed suit and spats for shoes. "I've just finished Watson," Bevan said. "That's another story."

Teddies on display: Bevan has given shows to senior citizens and she is also available for schools. She'll display her impersonators free at noon Nov. 27 at the Gainsborough clubhouse, at the corner of the Northwest Expressway Northwest Expressway may refer to:

On the side: Bevan is also a writer and hat collector, a pianist and painter who has traveled the globe and tried such obscure sports as fencing. "Try everything," Bevan said. "That's the way I am - I'm always going, always doing."
