1969 -- The first ground station for satellite communications is
inaugurated in the area of Umm Al-Aish.
1994 -- The State of Kuwait establishes diplomatic relations with the
Republic of Estonia.
1994 -- US President Bill Clinton pays a brief visit to Kuwait during which
he holds talks with the Amir and inspects American troops stationed along the
Kuwaiti-Iraqi border. The Amir bestows the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Medal upon the US
President in appreciation for his country's stances supporting Kuwait's rights
1996 -- Kuwait's national soccer team wins 13th Arabian Gulf tournament,
reclaiming the title.
2000 -- The State of Kuwait declares a donation of USD 150 million to
Al-Aqsa fund in line with resolutions of the emergency Cairo Arab summit.
2003 -- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) launches its web service with the aim of
providing advanced services in media.
2006 - State of Kuwait promulgates Kuwait Cultural Charitable Society which
offers scholarships and aid to high-achievers whether Kuwaitis or other
nationals with the aim of boosting social development and also supports
investment and charity projects.
2007 -- Minister of Social Affairs and Labor issues new regulations
regarding criteria for citizens to be granted "seniors' care".
2008 -- Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research gets the best 2008 energy
project prize for its initiative in smart-control conditioning and lighting
systems for state bodies, granted by a US engineers association.
2008 -- Ali Al-Mufidi, a pioneer actor and artists of theatre, radio, and
television, passes away aged 69. The artist played a part in the first Kuwaiti
cinema production "Bas ya Bahar."
