Third Wave Systems: Phase II USAF SBIR project award.Third Wave Systems, Inc. has announced the receipt of a USAF SBIR SBIR Small Business Innovation Research (program/grant) SBIR Space Based Infra-Red SBIR Speaker-Boundary Interference SBIR Site Backsurface-referenced Ideal Plane/Range (silicon wafers) Phase II Project Award entitled en·ti·tle tr.v. en·ti·tled, en·ti·tling, en·ti·tles 1. To give a name or title to. 2. To furnish with a right or claim to something: "Improved Titanium titanium (tītā`nēəm, tĭ–) [from Titan], metallic chemical element; symbol Ti; at. no. 22; at. wt. 47.88; m.p. 1,675°C;; b.p. 3,260°C;; sp. gr. 4.54 at 20°C;; valence +2, +3, or +4. Machining Processes." In Phase I work, Third Wave has demonstrated the feasibility of using Third Wave AdvantEdge technology in machining titanium materials to reduce costs and improve productivity by 50% or more. The Phase II plan, sponsored by the USAF Manufacturing Technology Division (AFRL/MLM), will advance the application of Third Wave technology established in Phase I and provide for extensive process validation in aerospace component production. The 24 month, $750,000 award will further develop and utilize Third Wave AdvantEdge technology to reduce the cost of manufacturing titanium components for the Air Force, specifically in the new Joint Strike Fighter A strike fighter is a fighter aircraft which is also capable of attacking surface targets, including ships. It differs from an attack aircraft in that the aircraft remains a capable fighter. (JSF (JavaServerFaces) A standard framework of components for building rich user interfaces for Java applications. Commercial companies demonstrating support through monetary and/or in-kind commitments include Fokker Special Products (Netherlands), Caterpillar, and Kennametal. "The Third Wave team is proud and honored to be awarded this contract by the U.S. Air Force, and to lead this multi-company effort to reduce costs in aerospace and other applications using AdvantEdge technology. Modeling is where it's at," remarked Kerry Marusich, Third Wave President. Founded in 1993, Third Wave Systems provides machining modeling software used by Fortune 500 aerospace and automotive companies to dramatically reduce costs in product design and manufacturing.
