Thin Ice: Unlocking the Secrets of Climate in the World's Highest Mountains.

THIN ICE: Unlocking the Secrets of Climate in the World's Highest Mountains The following is a list of the world's 100+ highest mountains per height above sea level, all of which are located in Asia. Only those summits are included that, by an objective measure, may be considered individual mountains as opposed to subsidiary peaks.  MARK BOWEN Mark Rosslyn Bowen (born 7 December 1963) is a former professional footballer and current football coach. He was a left-back who played for Tottenham Hotspur, Norwich City, West Ham United, Shimizu S-Pulse, Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic and Reading.

Bowen, a physicist, magazine writer, and mountain climber, follows climatologist cli·ma·tol·o·gy

Lonnie Thompson and his collaborators as they travel to the highest glacial peaks near the equator and look for evidence of past climate trends. Thompson's rationale for picking such locales is that the tropics tropics, also called tropical zone or torrid zone, all the land and water of the earth situated between the Tropic of Cancer at lat. 23 1-2°N and the Tropic of Capricorn at lat. 23 1-2°S.  receive the majority of the sun's radiation and thus their glaciers hold the greatest evidence of increasing temperatures. Bowen describes in detail the feats of engineering and physical stamina necessary for these arduous high-altitude expeditions, as well as the record of melting and warming that the scientists have traced in ice cores. These results, the author concludes, support assertions that the planet has warmed unusually during the past century and that human activity is the cause.
