Thermosets & Composites. (What to See at NPE 2003).

involved in thermosets thermosets, materials that can not be softened on heating. In thermosetting polymers, the polymer chains are joined (or cross-linked) by intermolecular bonding. Thermosets are usually supplied as partially polymerized or as monomer-polymer mixtures.  and composites, it looks like there may be significant news in one area of leading-edge technology: fuel cells. There were advance hints that GE Plastics and BMC (BMC Software, Inc., Houston, TX, www.bmc.com) A leading supplier of software that supports and improves the availability, performance, and recovery of applications in complex computing environments.  Inc. would announce at the show a new conductive BMC material for fuel-cell plates based on GE's brand-new PPO-based thermoset A polymer-based liquid or powder that becomes solid when heated, placed under pressure, treated with a chemical or via radiation. The curing process creates a chemical bond that, unlike a thermoplastic, prevents the material from being remelted. See thermoplastic.  called Noryl ETX ETX - End Of Text . BMCI BMCI Banque Marocaine du Commerce et de l'Industrie (Morocco)
BMCI Bio-Math Connect Institute (Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ)
BMCI Bulk Moulding Compounds Inc. (West Chicago, IL)
will also introduce a new conductive adhesive and water-fight seal for assembling bipolar plates into fuel-cell stacks. It is said to provide better conductivity across the bond line than simply pressing the plates together without a bond. Meanwhile, Hull/Finmac will be discussing special compression presses for molding bipolar plates.

Laboratory presses

Hull won't be the only compression-press builder at NPE--Fontijne Grotnes of the Netherlands and Labtech Engineering of Thailand will also be featuring their lab-scale equipment. Also EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) A security system for preventing theft in retail stores that uses disposable label tags or reusable hard tags attached to the merchandise.  Mold & Die Change Systems will introduce a magnetic QMC QMC

quartermaster corps
system that can withstand the heat of thermoset molds and platens.

In other equipment, Maxi-Blast is bringing its latest deflashing system and Flow Robotic Systems will discuss automated cells for finishing SMC parts.

The fast-growing field of pultrusion Pultrusion is a continuous process of manufacturing of composite materials with constant cross-section whereby reinforcing fibers are pulled through a resin, possibly followed by a separate preforming system, and into a heated die, where the resin undergoes polymerization.  will also have a presence at the show. Crown Pultrusion will discuss die manufacturing, and Scheer Bay Co. will unveil a cutter for thermoplastic pultrusions used to make long-fiber composites.

Besides BMCI, three other suppliers of thermoset materials will be at the show--Industrial Dielectrics and two producers of silicone rubbers, Dow Corning and Wacker Wacker may refer to:
