, that has come up with a non-solvent approach to impregnating long-fiber or continuous reinforcements with thermoplastics via aqueous emulsions. The company offers PolyPly latexes of modified acrylic, styrene sty·rene

acrylic, urethane, and urethane acrylic resins, which can be applied to reinforcing fibers by brush, roller, or spray. The resulting laminates can be consolidated in about 5 min at around 275 F and at pressures as low as one atmosphere (15 psi) using inexpensive tooling, says Plyonex general manager Michael L. Dorf. Pilot-scale trials have been made with vacuum bagging press molding, filament winding, and pultrusioon. There are now 14 PolyPly grades (including a fire-retardant acrylic) and more expected mid-year.

Plyonex also offers PlyoForm prepreg sheets of high-strength fibers already impregnated im·preg·nate
