Thermoforming.

Sophisticated automation was the keynote of many thermoforming exhibits at K'95. A robotic system robotic system An integrated system of devices that automate production and manufacturing of goods and services Surgery An AI-based surgical assistant system, which processes sensory input from haptic interfaces and/or allows surgeons to act with more accuracy than  for preforming and placing in-mold labels on a cut-in-place machine was one example. Two other machine builders provided a hint that robotic load/unload devices may become common thermoforming auxiliaries in the future.

Although twin-sheet forming of industrial parts was a big attention-getter at the show (demonstrated by Brown Machine and Cannon Shelley), most of the new machines were roll-fed packaging systems. Cut-in-place forming and electric servo drives characterized many of the new introductions.

IN-MOLD LABELING

In-mold labeling was shown on a new servo-driven cut-in-place pressure former from OMV OMV Open Market Value (automobiles)

They are picked from a magazine by a vacuum-equipped robot and placed on a quality-control station, which senses the presence and orientation of the label. Next, a male plug picks up the label by vacuum and places it into a preforming cavity, folding up the sides of the label against the plug. The plug places the label into the forming mold, releases it, and then retracts.

ROBOTIC LOADING, UNLOADING

A new six-axis robot from Z.M.D. International automates pre- and post-forming operations. It loads cut sheet into the machine, unloads formed parts, and then trims and stacks. Z.M.D. v.p. Jacob Horev says the Automatic Vacuum Forming Vacuum forming, commonly known as Vacuforming, is a simplified version of thermoforming, whereby a sheet of plastic is heated to a forming temperature, stretched onto or into a single-surface mold, and held against the mold by applying vacuum between the mold surface and the  Center (AVFC AVFC Aston Villa Football Club ) robot is an industry first. It has an interchangeable vacuum tool and a trimming tool. Programming is accomplished with a hand-held module or a console. The simple operating program reportedly requires no programming skills.

A servo-driven robot for product removal from CBW cbw - Crypt Breakers Workbench  Automation is supplied as part of a package with the new FT3000 roll-fed trim-in-place former from Irwin International. The servo-driven machine accepts molds measuring up to 600 x 500 mm. Irwin also introduced the FT7500 servo-driven trim-in-place machine, the largest in its line, which takes mold sizes up to 1000 x 750 mm.

PRINTED SHEET IN-REGISTER

G.N. Plastics Co. demonstrated an electronic photo-scanning accessory for its C-series contact-heat pressure formers. The device positions sheet with pre-printed images under the tooling.
