There is simply no value on dad's life; Teen jailed for 4 years after killing grandfather as he stole his car.

THE furious family of a grandfather killed by a carjacker today criticised the teenager's sentence.

Dean Fagan, 16, was jailed yesterday for running down Kenneth Bostock in his own car as he stole it from the 66-year-old's drive.

Fagan, of St Ambrose Croft, Netherton, was sentenced to four years and eight months at Preston crown court. He had earlier admitted manslaughter, but was cleared of murder.

Mr Bostock's children David and Gillian today said the length of the sentence put no value on their father's life.

David Bostock, 41, a senior teaching assistant, said: "About 14 members of close family and friends were in court to hear the verdict.

"At a previous hearing, the judge told Fagan to expect a lengthy sentence. There were gasps when it was read out.

"We were in shock. Totally devastated. We just couldn't believe it.

"I expected the sentence to be longer, about eight years. It feels like it hasn't been taken seriously.

"There is simply no value on dad's life. It is all about the defendant, not the family."

The court heard how Fagan jumped into a Volkswagen Golf Mr Bostock had left running while he opened his garage close to his home in Waterside, Netherton, last November.

Fagan knocked the pensioner down and ran over him.

The retired bus driver, who had four children and six grandchildren, died from massive head injuries.

Gillian Bostock, a 34-year-old hairdresser, said loved ones were made even more angry by Fagan's failure to show any remorse.

She said: "We were told Fagan had written a letter to the family, but we refused to accept it. If he is showing remorse why did it take him so long? He wanted a reduction in his sentence.

"We have heard nothing from the rest of his family."

David Bostock said his mother had been left terrified to leave the house after what happened.

He said: "Every day I drive in the street, I see these same gangs and my mum is a prisoner in her own home.

"Every time she takes the dog out for a walk she has to walk past the spot where she found dad and they all stare at her.

"I want them to show some respect for mum instead of intimidating us."
