There is a Song for You. (Poetry).
There is A Song For You
There is a song for you
That the world has been
Remiss in singing.
I too have often forgotten its melody.
It has been your whisper
In the night that has spoken
To rivers that would not flow.
It was you who first traveled
The Congo of urban plight.
Forced to go east to reach west.
Taking errors and making them correct.
You are Gandhi's mentor and Jesus' weeping
Bride at the cross on calvary.
And while angels rejoice
The world remains unwise.
Your hands tell stories
That glittering gloves cannot hide.
While the roots of your feet are
Covered with the crust of reality.
Educated in the elms of human trial
And black poverty.
Your torso offered to tenderize the beds
Of colored children.
Your love released
Is like air upon humanity.
It is given but rarely spoken
Linguistics being insufficient,
To speak your truth.
Instead you bake biscuits
With flour and lard worked
Through your fingers,
Bread rising to satisfy your beloved's appetite.
With black-eyed peas and candy yams
Picked and boiled
You ward off borrowed diseases.
Using your apron to send smoke signals
For the next generations' survival.
While silently smuggling a song into your children's heart.
Such a concerto has caused daisies to dance in dark valleys.
You are her.
The one they've failed to talk about.
The one with an empty space,
On the mental wall of noble praise.
