Thelen Partner Robert Nelson Appointed To Select Task Force On U.S.-India Economic Relations.


SAN FRANCISCO (February 12, 2007)-Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner partner Robert L. Nelson, Jr. has been appointed to a select United States task force formed by the Pacific Council on International Policy. The task force will work with an Indian counterpart group to develop policy recommendations for the enhancement of U.S.-India economic relations.

In addition to Mr. Nelson, the U.S. task force will include William H. Draper, III, managing director of Draper Richards and the dean of American venture capital investment in India (also the founder of Sutter Hill Ventures and the former head of the United Nations Development Program and the U.S. Export-Import Bank); Kenneth I. Juster, executive vice president of legal affairs and corporate development at Salesforce.com and former U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce from 2001-2005 and chair of the U.S.-India High Technology Cooperation Group; and Howard Leach, CEO of Leach Capital Corporation and U.S. Ambassador to France from 2001-2005.

The Indian task force, formed by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, is expected to include the chairmen or managing directors of leading firms in India, such as Reliance, Tata, Wipro, and Indian Oil Corporation.

The joint task forces will meet in the fall of 2007 in New Delhi and in the spring of 2008 in Northern California, following which a report will be published on its findings.

Mr. Nelson is a senior partner in Thelen's San Francisco office, who specializes in project development and finance, as well as energy and technology sector acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and project workouts and restructurings. A leading author on international and domestic project finance, Mr. Nelson serves as the chairman of the International Bar Association's Subcommittee on Financing Structures, Construction Law Committee, and vice chairman of the ABA International Secured Transactions and Insolvency Committee.
