Every soldier, sailor Person who navigates ships or assists in the conduct, maintenance, or service of ships. That quiet gnawing at night after lights out; that empty feeling helps bring tears when taps were played. That gnawing loneliness is a fickle fick·le adj. Characterized by erratic changeableness or instability, especially with regard to affections or attachments; capricious. [Middle English fikel, from Old English ficol, lady that will short dance with you in the excitement of getting a letter from home at "mail call" only to leave you even more empty, longing, and lonely at day's end. Loneliness is so great that fellow soldiers are envied when they get an early ticket home because they got a million dollar wound. Loneliness is the first emotion ever experienced in human life, immediately after birth, and the last emotion ever experienced on earth just prior to death, when we realize that we have to let go and that we will have to go on alone. Loneliness can be felt heaviest in a crowd. I remember when I was the newbee or new guy in country. My uniforms screamed fresh from the states, new in country, you can't trust him yet, prove yourself first, wherever I went. I tried to remember that feeling when I became one of the old guys or when I could say the magical words "short timer timer, n radiographic timing device that functions as an automatic exposure timer and a switch to control the current to the high-tension transformer and filament transformer. The face of the timer is calibrated in seconds and fractions of seconds. " when I only had a month to go "in country." I looked for the new guy, not to boast of my short timer status, but to try to help him get off on a better foot than I did. To be a friend so that his loneliness wouldn't gnaw on him as bad as my mine did. I want to invite you to join me here today in doing the same thing within the DAV See WebDAV. . Look for those who are new, new in your chapter, state conferences, and national convention meetings. Invite them over to your table to sit with you. Sit beside them in a meeting and volunteer to explain who the speakers are, or who the officers are in the room, or explain what is going on in the meeting if needed. Take some time to help another comrade fit in and feel welcome. Being new can be a very lonely experience, and may determine whether that new person stays involved with us or not. Like every war won, the war on loneliness can only be won when each combatant does his or her duty. As I said above, at the end of life the loneliest moment in life will be when we realize that we have to let go and step into eternity on our own. The Scriptures tell us that through the doorway of faith, God will be on the other side to take our hand and help us to fit in and feel right at home in our new home that He has prepared for "His Children." Are you one of them? Remember, with God loneliness can be overcome. For The Glory Of God;. Ephesians 3:16-19 Rev. Gerald V.
