The very fortunate Hilary Duff: we hope you aren't expecting the typical magazine story about what's in Hilary's makeup bag. For her second GL cover, we figured we'd do something a little different. The Hilary who, as we go to press, went on the Today show to promote her big summer movie The Perfect Man and admitted she "has a crush" but didn't name Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden? The Hilary who calls sister Haylie, her co-star in next year's Material Girls, "my best, best friend in the whole world"?

When we floated the "psychic" idea to Hilary, we were worried she would think it was cheesy, but she totally got into it. TRACY SAYS: The dog is how Hilary sees herself. She's definitely loyal. She treats her family with great respect. And she can be really silly.

HILARY SAYS: That's cool! I think I am loyal. When I see that someone has my back and loves me, I treat them the same way. And I'm definitely playful. I love to play tricks. Haylie and I do these voices and characters all the time.

TRACY SAYS The monkey represents her ideal in a guy. Joel definitely does what he wants. He's free, very independent. Hilary is attracted to freedom. Their attraction is strong. They get each other.

HILARY SAYS Oh, my gosh! I like that. Joel is really cool. We agree on so much stuff on so many levels--morally, the business, things we're into. We're both against the celebrity party lifestyle of dancing on tables or, like, staying up all night unnaturally. He's busy, I'm busy, and we don't party. He looks wild on the outside, but inside he's really calm.

TRACY SAYS The seal represents how Hilary wants her family life to be. Hilary's career is growing, especially on the screen, because people like her. She wants calm. She needs more sleep.

HILARY SAYS Wow! I wouldn't mind having a big family. You know what's cool about that? Before I came to California, I grew up having dinner with the family every night. Morn would cook, and my dad was there--he's in Houston running his business--and we would sit and talk. It's been seven years now, and I'd love to sit for a meal without someone approaching me for an autograph. I'm blessed, but even when I go to dinner, I'm working. I get really tired.

HILARY SAYS That's dead-on. I see some of the stories in magazines about me, but I try not to buy them. It's all negative and gossipy--you're too fat or skinny or dating this guy. Who cares, you know? I've read so much stuff about myself that's not true. So much is fake. I bought a Jacob watch last year, which is expensive, but it was reported that I spent $250,000 on jewelry for myself. I could never frivolously spend money like that.

TRACY SAYS The career of a One is enduring. Hilary sometimes feels guilty about her success, like "Why did I get these good things in my life?" Hilary should remind herself that she earned her fame, and she works. She's going to be around for a long time.

HILARY SAYS I hope so. What I was saying before about it being fake in the magazines? Some of it isn't. I've seen it with my own eyes. The partying some celebrities do.... It cuts off motivation, taking acting seriously. It's not good for girls to look up to. I would never do that.

TRACY SAYS Ones make good tennis players or gymnasts. Hilary has a strong body and doesn't have to work out.

HILARY SAYS I've never played tennis, but I took gymnastics for a long time. I have a trampoline, and I can do anything on it! On the ground, I do back handsprings. I never work out at a gym.

TRACY SAYS Ones have imbalanced blood sugar. Hilary's body wants meditation and green tea.

HILARY SAYS That's true. I'm getting better about what I eat. Sometimes on set, I'm so tired I can barely move. Then I'll eat M&Ms, and I'm ready to go! I love the plain kind. They're just so good.

TRACY SAYS The heart represents emotions and love. Hilary is an old soul, and old souls generally run off emotions. Love is very important to her. Her relationship with Joel is a great friendship. She doesn't try to control him; she just likes him. He's also an old soul. That's why they're attracted to each other.

HILARY SAYS I totally agree with that 100-percent. You watch the relationship your parents show you. I grew up in a well-balanced family. My parents got along, even though they spent a lot of time apart. They treat each other nicely, really loving. Since I've seen that, I'm a stronger person. I've never relied on a boy. I'd never let anyone mistreat me. Joel is very respectful, sweet. We're a good mix of personalities.

TRACY SAYS The circle represents Hilary's view of the self--she has a great self-image. The square indicates she's happy about the change around her.

HILARY SAYS I agree with that. I feel like I'm being enlightened with everything around me. I'm soaking it in--my friendship with my sister, my family, my job, my relationship. I'm getting more in touch with it, feeling smarter, learning to deal with situations. I'm learning how to make good choices.

TRACY SAYS The triangle represents faith. Even though it's lower on her ranking, Hilary is very spiritual and, in her past lives, explored many religions. Few people know her boyfriend is also quite spiritual and credits Jesus Christ with his success.

HILARY SAYS I totally believe that! I believe you're learning from a past life. Everything is for a reason. People assume things, but you can't know what's going on inside. So you have trust.

TRACY SAYS The spiral represents infinity, freedom. Because of her success, Hilary will never be free in that sense. She'll always be in the public eye.

HILARY SAYS That's interesting. I feel very controlled a lot of the time with my job. I do it with a happy heart, but I do feel controlled. I'm not into people taking my picture constantly, but I know that comes with it.

HILARY SAYS I buy a lot of black to wear. But the green, the trust thing ... Sometimes I don't trust people. I've had to fire friends before because they didn't have the same motivations I had. TRACY SAYS The lotus represents serenity. It helps her relax. She's fascinated with meditation because two of her past lives were as a Buddhist and another was Chinese. She has a desire to reach deep relaxation and would benefit from acupuncture or green tea.

HILARY SAYS I could use some serenity. I'm never home to enjoy my house for a day and night. There's so much going on. I'm lucky to have it all and have the fans I have, but it's hard.

TRACY SAYS The ankh is her soul. She's very self-grounded. It's hard to rock Hilary's world. If anyone were to attack her, she'd be able to defend herself.

HILARY SAYS Interesting. I deal with a lot of negativity. People always take cheap shots at me. No matter what choices I make and as much as I give back, they take their shots.

Hilary In The Desert

She describes the box in the desert as a big, old wooden trunk. It's carved, with paint chipping off and other paint coming through. The horse is like the white Welsh pony she had growing up, but it's running free now. No gates, nothing to do but have fun and do anything a horse wants to do. The storm is during a beautiful, warm day. The rain is hard, but it's pretty and dramatic. The garden isn't too organized. Flowers of every color and shape are entwined all over the place. Big plants, little plants, very lush. The ladder is the biggest, sturdiest ladder ever! It's open and uptight.

TRACY SAYS Amazing! Her soul is so old. The box is wood, and wood is earth. Carved means it's of value. I guarantee she was someone famous even in a past life. Chipping paint means she's been through tough times. Paint underneath means her life is still emerging. She'll always act, but I see more music.

HILARY SAYS I definitely believe in past lives. I love recording. My new CD has songs that are already on other albums. The three new songs are the ones I relate to most. "Haters" I co-wrote with Haylie about people who are hateful. Girls are so mean to each other, saying she's so this or so that. For a while, I was dealing with that, and not in the normal way. I was reading about it along with millions of people. Most of it wasn't even true.

TRACY SAYS The horse represents her romantic interest. When she was young, it was white, which is purity. She hoped for Prince Charming. Now, she describes Joel. He's free and doesn't let anything make him different.

HILARY SAYS That's very funny! That's really right. Joel won't be told what to do. If he feels like he's being controlled, he won't do it.

TRACY SAYS Hilary is the desert, and the rain is her work. The rain is hard; the work is hard. The rain is good for the desert. The work is going to make her life better. The beauty of the storm means her self-esteem is strong.

HILARY SAYS My schedule is hard. It comes all at once, like a big rain storm. I try to stay in control, to have boundaries. Like, for a movie I might shave my head, but I'd never do a nude scene.

TRACY SAYS Sometime after her 24th birthday, Hilary will start having children. I see four children. She'll have two, then she'll go back to work and have two more later. They'll all be different. She will also always have a ton of animals, lots of life in her house.

HILARY SAYS I like that. We have five dogs now! When my sister and I filmed Material Girls, we did this scene in a house with a lot of cats, and it was disgusting. Cats freak us out a little, like how someone who didn't grow up with dogs is weirded out by them. We had cat hair stuck to our lip gloss, all over our clothes, just ... yuck! It was so gross.

TRACY SAYS The ladder represents heaven and family. Her family is there for her. The fact that it's open means she believes in God.

HILARY SAYS Oh, definitely! For a while, I was like, "Who can say?" But then I knew it was about faith. I started praying more, and it's been a better year for me. I think that's really right-on.

Her romantic future

TRACY SAYS Hilary and Joel are very into God. It's not something celebrities usually talk about, but they share a love of the spirit.

TRACY SAYS This CD reflects her wealth of talent. She's going to write more of her own songs and, someday, she'll win some awards!

Her family future

TRACY SAYS Haylie will develop her own career. She has an intuitiveness and earthliness. She loves her sister very much, and there's never any sibling rivalry.
