I wonder how many of your readers will grasp the significance of your practical and strategic advice urging chief executives to speak out in their own interests and not allow critics unchallenged license to define their roles (Editorial, October 2003). Are CEOs intimidated by the cacophony of negativism negativism /neg·a·tiv·ism/ (neg´ah-ti-vizm?) opposition to suggestion or advice; behavior opposite to that appropriate to a specific situation or against the wishes of others, including direct resistance to efforts to be moved.  from pundits with a Club of Rome The Club of Rome is a global think tank that deals with a variety of international political issues.  mentality agonizing over what may happen in the corporate world?

Contrary to the conventional wisdom that says unity equals strength, the impact of scores of individual CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  voices proactively speaking out carries more weight than any institutional pleadings. The challenge for CEOs, as you persuasively point out, is to demonstrate how vital they truly are. No less than their credibility--and that of capitalism as a whole--is at stake.
