A CONCRETE SKATEPARK in the Caribbean? Ya Maan! Located on Grand Cayman Island, this 59,000-square-foot park was built by some concrete pirates who were shipwrecked during a hurricane.

While drinking some rum with a local developer, they convinced him that he needed a skatepark to give the tourists something to enjoy when they weren't snorkeling, getting chased by giant stingrays, or climbing coconut trees.

The fourth largest banking area in the world, this small island just below Cuba has about 10 serious skateboarders--and more to come with a park of this caliber. Rumor has it Appleyard's morn lives on Grand Cayman and has been frequenting the building of the concrete structure. Sightings of Mark skating around Georgetown have also been reported.

The skatepark, located four miles from the downtown port area, Georgetown and the airport, is right on the water with stores and restaurants close by. The trannies are smooth as top-shelf rum with endless lines. There's a snake run, extensions, pockets, hips, and lots of corners. Smaller bowled areas are four-feet deep, with the larger bowls opening up to 12-feet. There's also a street section with ledges, rails, Euro-gaps, and a big three block--making this a park for everyone from street chompers to bowl trolls to mega-ramp blasters. Ya Maan!--Coconut Joe
