Noun 1.
 proclaim pro·claim
tr.v. pro·claimed, pro·claim·ing, pro·claims

that "I shall not die, but I shall live" (v. 17) on Easter Day. This is the day that the Lord has made (v. 24), and we shout: Christ is Risen. Alleluia Alleluia, Latin form of the expression Hallelujah. !

Hear the refrain of the words "steadfast love" sung four times in the first four verses. Steadfast love describes the character of God who will save and deliver his Exodus people. Steadfast love was incarnate in·car·nate

b. Embodied in human form; personified: a villain who is evil incarnate.
 in Jesus on Easter Day.

A second refrain is heard in verses 15-16: the "right hand of the Lord." Three times the Lord's right hand is victorious, mighty, and uplifted up·lift

3.
. The psalmist is echoing Moses' song in Exodus 15 where he too sings of God's "right hand" that saved them. On Easter Day, we celebrate Jesus Christ Jesus Christ: see Jesus.

Jesus Christ

40 days after Resurrection, ascended into heaven. [N.T.: Acts 1:1–11]

See : Ascension

Jesus Christ

kind to the poor, forgiving to the sinful. [N.T.
who sits at the "right hand of God."

Verse 22 recalls that the stone rejected by the builders as unsuitable becomes the cornerstone toward which the other building stones are oriented. A cornerstone usually suggests a big building, perhaps the Temple. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Acts quote this verse in reference to Jesus' rejection by Israel. Easter Day celebrates that the rejected stone (Jesus) is revealed as the true cornerstone (Messiah).

Listen to the praise of verse 24 singing the joy of this day "as a day the Lord had made." Sunday is such a day, because Christians rejoice in the "marvelous acts of God" (v. 23) being revealed in the flesh: Jesus Christ.

Open Mouth/Psalm Speech

On this Easter Sunday, Psalm 118 shouts "This is the day the Lord has made," for on this day Jesus rose from the dead! Nothing is ever the same again. On this day, God has done a marvelous thing because of his "steadfast love" in Jesus. God's "right hand" is victorious over sin, death, and the devil. Jesus returns to sit at his Father's "right hand" until the day of judgment.

Preachers can open the ears of their listeners to the wondrous words in this psalm that cry out for Alleluia. Not only was the cornerstone rejected by the builders, but the cornerstone named Jesus rejected another stone forever: the one that foolishly tried to keep him in the grave. Ha!
